Miss California Carrie Prejean Earned Her Crown

Miss California Carrie PrejeanHow her answer to one question shot her into the media spotlight.

By Nathan A. Cherry

Martinsburg, W.V. – While at the Values Voter Summit I had the privilege of hearing Miss California Carrie Prejean. Many will remember that Ms. Prejean was in the final two at the Miss America pageant and seemed to have the pageant in control and poised for victory. Then the pageant and her world changed forever with the answer she gave to one simple question: What is your opinion of same-sex marriage? (The question was asked by openly gay blogger Perez Hilton)

Ms. Prejean would later remark that she thought the question was out of line for a beauty pageant and, to be honest I agree with her. I can’t imagine how the socio-political view on any given topic would possibly affect her reign as Miss America (Perhaps I don’t know as much about the purpose of the pageant as I thought I did).

So, as Miss California stood before thousands, watched by cameras and millions of people across the country she found herself at a crisis of faith and desire. She had desired to be a pageant winner her entire life. She had desired to win Miss America and compete for Miss Universe. But the faith instilled in her from childhood was strong, and she knew she could not betray it.

Values Voter Summit 2009 – Lila Rose is a Champion of Life

Me with Lila RoseWashington, D.C. – At first, she may look like a kid, or just a really young girl that is out of place in a room full of Washington-hardened politicians and media outlets. But all that fades to nothing when you start listening to barely 21 year old Lila Rose talk about her passion for the unborn.

This morning at the Values Voter Summit Lila shared how she came to this place of prominence in our culture as an icon for life. As a college freshman at UCLA Lila went undercover, posing as 13 year old girl seeking an abortion after her 31 year old boyfriend impregnated her. She video-taped her experiences at various Planned Parenthood centers in Indiana, Alabama, Tennessee and Arizona. The footage can be found on Youtube and is shocking to any parent that believes they have the right to know if their 13 year old is seeking an abortion. Read the rest of this entry »

The Annual Values Voter Summit

Entire event covered by FPC and blogged daily for your reading enjoyment.

Martinsburg, WV – I am looking forward to attending one of the most anticipated events of the year, the Values Voter Summit of 2009. The summit will be held in Washington, D.C., on September 18 – 19 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel.

The Values Voter Summit is a gathering of socially conservative thinkers, politicians, and other professionals drawn together to discuss the hot-topic issues of our day. Topics such as “Defunding Planned Parenthood,” “Obamacare,” “Illegal Immigration,” and “Marriage,” are just some of the many topics that will be explored and discussed during this weekend.

The sponsors, groups such as the Family Research Council, American Family Association, and American Values, have joined together to bring a stunning, all-star event to the D.C., metro area.

With over 40 confirmed speakers of the highest caliber in American Politics and civil rights scheduled to share during the weekend, guests will not find a dull moment during this event. Consider, that gathered in one place will be the likes of Mike Huckabee, Ken Blackwell, Gary Bauer, Bill Bennett, Ergun Caner, Bishop Harry Jackson, Bill O’Reilly, Star Parker, Tony Perkins, Carrie Prejean, Lila Rose, Mitt Romney, Stephen Baldwin, and on the list goes.

You may remember that Carrie Prejean is the former Miss California and Miss America pageant contestant who caused national attention with her answers on same-sex marriage.

Lila Rose is the UCLA student that caused a stir in the Planned Parenthood ranks by secretly taping herself posing as a 13 or 14 year old minor being told by Planned Parenthood Read the rest of this entry »
