The Irony and Hypocrisy that Abortion Creates

with 2 comments

One woman behind bars, one walks free, both attempted to murder their baby.

By Nathan A. Cherry

Martinsburg, W.V. – The irony, rather hypocrisy that exists in our country regarding the life of an unborn child is both striking and angering.

The sentence of Wendy J. Villatoro was just handed down by a Washington, D.C. district judge. According to the article in the Washington Post, Villatoro will be spending the next 13 years behind bars. Her crime? She killed her baby. So where is the irony?

Had Villatoro walked into an abortion clinic and told doctors she was raped and wished to have an abortion the procedure would have been performed and she would have been on her way. But because she did it herself she will now spend 13 years in prison.

The Annual Values Voter Summit

The Annual Values Voter Summit

Entire event covered by FPC and blogged daily for your reading enjoyment.

By Nathan A. Cherry

Martinsburg, WV – I am looking forward to attending one of the most anticipated events of the year, the Values Voter Summit of 2009. The summit will be held in Washington, D.C., on September 18 – 19 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel.

The Values Voter Summit is a gathering of socially conservative thinkers, politicians, and other professionals drawn together to discuss the hot-topic issues of our day. Topics such as “Defunding Planned Parenthood,” “Obamacare,” “Illegal Immigration,” and “Marriage,” are just some of the many topics that will be explored and discussed during this weekend.

The sponsors, groups such as the Family Research Council, American Family Association, and American Values, have joined together to bring a stunning, all-star event to the D.C., metro area.

With over 40 confirmed speakers of the highest caliber in American Politics and civil rights scheduled to share during the weekend, guests will not find a dull moment during this event. Consider, that gathered in one place will be the likes of Mike Huckabee, Ken Blackwell, Gary Bauer, Bill Bennett, Ergun Caner, Bishop Harry Jackson, Bill O’Reilly, Star Parker, Tony Perkins, Carrie Prejean, Lila Rose, Mitt Romney, Stephen Baldwin, and on the list goes.

You may remember that Carrie Prejean is the former Miss California and Miss America pageant contestant who caused national attention with her answers on same-sex marriage.

Lila Rose is the UCLA student that caused a stir in the Planned Parenthood ranks by secretly taping herself posing as a 13 or 14 year old minor being told by Planned Parenthood Read the rest of this entry »

Who’s “Bearing False Witness” on Abortion and Health Care?

with 2 comments

As we explained earlier this week, the current “compromise” on abortion within the health care overhaul appears to be no compromise at all.  To support that claim, we first cited FactCheck.org.

To add credibility, we now refer you to the Wall Street Journal:

Some Democrats have been searching for a compromise approach. An amendment approved by the House Energy and Commerce Committee [Capps Amendment] would allow coverage of abortion, but the money would have to come from the portion of the premiums that are paid by the individuals. A sliver of those monthly premiums would be segregated and abortion services would be reimbursed from that separate account.

The amendment also says there would have to be at least one plan that covers abortion and one that doesn’t in every part of the country. State restrictions on access to abortion would remain in place. [emphasis added]

via Abortion Is New Front in Health Battle – WSJ.com.

The article also makes it clear that the National Organization of Women, as well as Planned Parenthood, are increasing their lobbying of key legislative leaders to demand that “reproductive rights” be included in whatever Health Care overhaul discussion takes place.

Abortion and Sex-Ed programs are Worst Option

Recent studies show that abortion harms women, abstinence far more successful in the classroom.

By Nathan A. Cherry

Martinsburg, WV – “The thought of the word “abortion” should be unthinkable.” These words were spoken recently by Alveda King at a locally organized pro-life event at Rocky Mount High-School. I wish more people had this mind-set when it came to the murder of innocent children.

Ms. King, relative of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. became a staunch pro-life supporter after her own abortion experiences before accepting Christ in 1983. At the community event she said,

“This country was founded upon the respect for personal freedom; nobody should go against his or her conscious or moral values in order to keep their job. This is what abortion will do.” (Click here for origin)

Ms. King is referencing an open letter written to President Obama regarding his proposed health-care reform in which abortion on demand will be included at tax-payer’s expense; and doctors and nurses will risk losing their jobs for refusing to perform abortions on religious grounds.

Amazingly it would seem that all that is needed to reduce abortion rates is a little education on abstinence and the potential hazards for a woman’s health that exist from abortion.

“Abstinence is the first line of defense in preventing abortion. A woman does have the right to choose. But her moment of choice comes before she has made the choice to become sexually active. We need to educate people on that moment of choice,” said Marica Brown, director of the “Worth Waiting 4” program. Read the rest of this entry »

FPC Media Blitz: Advocates for Life Triumph, Mayo Clinic Doctor Admits Abortion Harms Women, Homosexual Twice as Likely to Seek Treatment

By Nathan A. Cherry

Below are some of the headlines and stories making news across our country and across the world.

Italian high court finds no difference between traditional family, cohabiting couple” – Obviously the Italian High Court has not been paying attention to recent sociological studies which show the traditional family as having a positive impact on society as opposed to single-family, cohabiting families, and same-sex families. Next time, they should do their homework.

Truth and Advocates for Life Triumph” – Townhall columnist Ken Blackwell speaks on the Obama health-reform policy and its hidden agenda of abortion on demand paid for by the American people. He says, “Opposition to federally-funded abortion is a bridge issue, bringing together Americans of all parties and ethnic and religious backgrounds.” President Obama is just plain delusional if he thinks that the American people are interested in paying for other people’s abortions. And we’re not near as naïve as he thinks; we have read his proposal and know that abortion on demand is in the policy.

UN Health Data Show Liberal Abortion Laws Lead to Greater Maternal Death” – Despite Planned Parenthood’s attempt to assure us that there is no significant link between widespread, legalized abortion and women’s health, all the evidence says otherwise. And now, even Planned Parenthood themselves can’t seem to deny the truth any longer, coming out to say that there does seem to be a link between abortion and maternal death rates. Maybe our government will take Planned Parenthood out of their pocket and start looking out for the health and well-being of women; and not the health and well-being of their own bank accounts.

Mayo Clinic Doctor Admits Abortions Hurt Women, Cause Premature Births” – A doctor at the renowned Mayo clinic has recently published a study showing the connection between abortion and premature birth, which can also lead to cerebral palsy. This is just one of the many ways women put their health and the health of future children in jeopardy by abortion. So let’s see, doctors at the Mayo clinic say abortion harms women, Planned Parenthood says abortion harms women, a large body of empirical evidence says that abortion harms women. I am not sure what else our lawmakers need in order for them to admit that abortion harms women.

Study: Homosexuals Twice as Likely to Seek Mental Health, Substance Abuse Treatment– This study out of UCLA shows that homosexuals seek treatment at a rate of twice that of heterosexuals. A quick glance of facts from the study, “The study of 2074 people interviewed in the California Health Interview Survey found that 48.5% of homosexual and bisexual individuals reported receiving psychiatric or drug abuse treatment in the past year as compared to 22.5% of heterosexuals.” How long will people continue to try and convince us that this lifestyle is good, and normal, and healthy?

Abstinence: A Guaranteed Way To Avoid Pregnancy and STD’s

with one comment

By Nathan A. Cherry

The liberal left, Planned Parenthood, and other proponents of contraceptive-based sex-education will try to tell us that such education is the only way to reduce teen pregnancy and STD’s; despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

Recently the CDC reported that teen pregnancy and STD rates are at all-time highs, and continuing to climb. (Click here for the CDC report)

Then there is a recent report found at Citizenlink.org showing research results from many major research institutions on a variety of teen related topics. This report shows the link between teen depression/suicide and sexual activity, and the positive effects of parent-teen homework assignments designed to reinforce communication between parents and teens.

But quite strikingly is the findings related to abstinence education on the rate of sexual initiation and sexual activity among teens. Here are several conclusions from the report:

“Researchers examined the impact of a school-based abstinence education program on the initiation of sexual intercourse by virgin adolescents. They also sought to determine the program’s impact on adolescent social cognitive factors linked to adolescent sexual initiation. The researchers concluded that the program achieved its goal of reducing the rate at which adolescents initiated sexual intercourse. Adolescent virgins who participated in the program were approximately one-half as likely as non-participants to initiate sexual activity after one year.”

“This paper discusses 21 studies of abstinence education. Fifteen studies examined abstinence programs that were intended primarily to teach abstinence. Of these 15 studies, 11 reported positive findings. The other six studies analyzed virginity pledges, and of these six studies, five reported positive findings. Overall, 16 of the 21 studies reported statistically significant positive results, such as delayed sexual initiation and reduced levels of early sexual activity, among youths who have received abstinence education. Five studies did not report any significant positive results.”

“The authors analyzed data from interviews with 3,750 men and 3,620 women, conducted for the National Longitudinal Study of Youth (1979 to 2000). They found that women who were virgins at age 18 were, by middle adulthood (between ages 36 and 43), more likely than their peers to be debt-free and less likely to have used welfare benefits or to have experienced health problems. Both men and women who were virgins at age 18 attained more education than their peers and were half as likely to become divorced by middle adulthood. These findings held true when the authors controlled for ethnicity and measures of previous educational or economic disadvantage.”

What should be immediately apparent is the obvious and positive role that abstinence education plays in the lives of teens. This is not partisan politics we are talking about here; this is the health and well-being of our children. Anyone who denies the positive results of abstinence education is quite simply foolish. If the ultimate goal is to see our children stay healthy then abstinence is the only guaranteed way to achieve that objective. How can a girl get pregnant if she doesn’t have sex? How can a young man contract an STD if he does not have sex? It is practically impossible. Anyone who says otherwise is deceiving themselves.

And yet, our government would like to further push a failing program of contraceptive education. And why? Because there is a mentality that says kids are going to have sex anyways, so let’s just show them the right way to do it. Well, kids are going to drink illegally, should we show them how to do that “properly” as well? Maybe we should lower the drinking age to make it easier on everyone. That is the mentality behind the ludicrous idea of teaching grade-school children about sex. Hey, Uncle Sam, that is mom and dad’s job. Hey, mom and dad, that is your job.

The fact that contraceptive education is failing is a growing fact among social analysts. Moira Gaul, Director of Women’s and Reproductive Health at the Family Research Council, says,

After 30 years of implementation and evaluation, there is no compelling evidence of contraceptive distribution and instruction programs having had a sustained and meaningful effect on “protective” behaviors-that is, “consistent and correct condom use” in classroom-type settings. As a public health intervention method, contraceptive programs have simply failed American youth: An STD epidemic currently exists amongst young people. One in four teenage girls nationwide has an STD, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; the U.S. continues to have the highest teen pregnancy rate in the industrialized world; and the toll from the negative psychological [effects] associated with adolescent sex is having an impact on mental health and the pursuit of life-goals.”

Not only are contraception programs failing, they are helping contribute to single parent homes in poverty, substance abuse, lower academic achievement, and school drop-out rates according to Gaul. And yet our government wants to continue pushing these programs. Something tells me they are not concerned at all for the health and well-being of our children, but rather the pockets of their financial donors.

There will never be such a thing as a 100% successful public sex-education program. But evidence for success is overwhelmingly on the side of abstinence education over contraception education when it comes to the overall short and long-term health and well-being of children. That should be enough for any person, republican, democrat or otherwise to support such education.

Rep. Boehner Saves Lives, President Obama Takes Them:

with one comment

This USA Today/Gallup poll  shows the approval rating of seven specific actions President Obama has taken in his first few weeks in office. Nearly 3 out of 4 Americans agrees with most of the Presidents actions, but two-thirds of Americans are not happy with the Presidents decision to provide overseas family planning groups with funding for abortions.

On a happier note, the President did decide to remove funding for death merchants such as Planned Parenthood from his economic stimulus package. This, in large part, thanks to house Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, who worked tirelessly and aggressively to encourage bi-partisan opposition to the funding. (Take time to thank Rep. Boehner, here).

So, thankfully, American death merchants will get no federal stimulus money, but sadly we will be sending money overseas to help other countries kill pre-born children.

When will this administration and lawmakers in Washington realize that the majority of this country, a strong majority at that wants to see life protected? This is an issue that Democrats, Republicans and Independents are joining hands and voices on. This is an issue that people of all nationality, color and religion are standing shoulder to shoulder on. So why won’t the President allow the majority of Americans to speak and make this decision? Odds are it has more to do with money and power than doing what’s right.

But the fact is, “life, liberty, and the pursuit…” ought to be protected at all costs. Once life is no longer valuable we cease to be a civilized people worthy of world-wide respect. Second, at a time when America needs every penny in order to recover economically, does it make much sense to send our hard-earned dollars overseas to support a cause that most Americans abhor?

We must continue to let our voices be heard on this most imperative issue. Once the lives of the pre-born are no longer sacred, who’s next? The elderly? The infirm? All life is sacred and must be protected.
